Le site sur lequel se trouve l’établissement de Bétharram « va fermer », a annoncé, jeudi 22 janvier sur RTL, Pierre-Vincent Guéret, le président de la Fnogec, l’organisme de gestion de l’enseignement catholique, en fixant une échéance « à l’été ». « L’établissement Bétharram éclabousse par sa réputation l’intégralité de l’enseignement catholique, a-t-il souligné. Le mot Bétharram doit être envoyé aux oubliettes de l’Histoire. »
« Institutionnellement, Bétharram va fermer, opérationnellement, Bétharram doit déménager », a-t-il ajouté, en soulignant qu’il fallait encore « que Rome donne son accord », la congrégation des Pères de Bétharram étant pilotée depuis Rome.
Cette annonce intervient plus de deux ans après les révélations sur l’affaire des violences sexuelles et physiques qui se sont poursuivies pendant des décennies à Notre-Dame-de-Bétharram, établissement huppé du Béarn où l’ancien chef du gouvernement, François Bayrou, a eu des enfants scolarisés. L’affaire a entraîné des révélations en chaîne de mauvais traitements et d’agressions sexuelles dans d’autres établissements, souvent catholiques, à travers toute la France.
