Née au Canada, Catherine O’Hara est décédée à son domicile de Los Angeles « des suites d’une courte maladie », selon un communiqué de son agence, CAA. Aucun autre détail n’a été communiqué dans l’immédiat.
Ancienne membre de la troupe de théâtre Second City de Toronto, elle était également l’une des créatrices de l’émission humoristique à sketches « Second City Television », qui contribuera à lancer la carrière d’autres humoristes canadiens de renom, comme Martin Short et Andrea Martin.
La prestation dramatique de Catherine O’Hara dans la série The Last of Us de HBO lui a valu une nomination aux Emmy Awards, tout comme son rôle récent de productrice hollywoodienne dans The Studio.
