Cette fresque historique signée de la Palestinienne Annemarie Jacir amène de fait chacun à se positionner à un moment de bascule pour le Proche-Orient.
Le film revient sur un épisode méconnu, la grande révolte arabe qui, de 1936 à 1939, enflamma la région. Ce mouvement de contestation fait suite à une situation coloniale de moins en moins tolérée. Il visait à la création en Palestine d’un Etat indépendant et à l’arrêt de l’immigration juive, au moment où se multipliaient les colonies dans la lignée du projet sioniste. Les Britanniques réagirent à la fois en réprimant durement les mouvements rebelles et en mettant en place la Commission royale pour la Palestine, dite Commission Peel, qui déboucha à l’été 1937 sur la recommandation d’une répartition à deux Etats.
