La mégalopole de plus de 8 millions d’habitants est frappée par une importante tempête de neige, si bien que les autorités y ont interdit la majorité des déplacements jusqu’à ce 23 février à midi (heure locale, 18 heures à Paris) et mobilisé des moyens conséquents face aux perturbations attendues.
Un état d’urgence et une interdiction temporaire de circuler ont été décrétés. Concrètement, la majorité des transports, les voitures individuelles, les véhicules commerciaux ou encore les vélos électriques ne peuvent pas se déplacer. Sont autorisés à circuler les travailleurs essentiels et les habitants qui ont besoin de se déplacer pour des urgences.
Le phénomène météorologique touche une large partie de la Côte est des Etats-Unis. A New York, jusqu’à 70 centimètres de neige sont attendus, avec des rafales de vent glacial atteignant 80 kilomètres-heure.
