Tom Homan, l’émissaire américain à la sécurité aux frontières, envoyé par Donald Trump à Minneapolis (Minnesota), a annoncé le retrait, « avec effet immédiat », de 700 agents de la police de l’immigration (ICE), mercredi 4 février.
Pendant plusieurs semaines, cette ville du Minnesota a été le théâtre de fortes tensions entre manifestants et policiers de l’immigration. Deux civils américains ont été abattus en janvier par des agents fédéraux.
Cependant, Tom Homan a rappelé que le président américain avait « l’intention d’effectuer des déportations massives ». L’émissaire a demandé aux responsables politiques d’appeler « au calme au sein de la communauté », et aux manifestants d’« arrêter d’entraver, d’interférer et d’enfreindre la loi ».
