Récompensée du Nobel en octobre pour ses efforts en faveur d’une transition démocratique au Venezuela, l’opposante de 58 ans, qui vivait jusqu’alors cachée dans son pays, a remercié « tous ces hommes et ces femmes qui ont risqué leur vie pour [qu’elle] puisse être [à Oslo] aujourd’hui ».
Mme Machado est entrée en clandestinité au Venezuela en août 2024, quelques jours après une élection présidentielle à laquelle elle a été empêchée de se présenter. Dans son pays, la justice la recherche pour « conspiration, incitation à la haine et terrorisme ».
